On Thursday, April the 3rd a human library was organized by Mrs.Zuyderduyn.
Many people with interesting and meaningful stories. I signed out three human book's but i only saw two because i lost track of time in gym class. i ended up seeing Mike MC the tattoo artist and Dr.Chris.
I chose Mike because being a tattoo artist/piercer seems like a very interesting career choice. He had several tattoos and piercings himself and told us that going to work didn't even feel like a job to him because he liked it so much.
I learned that in order to do tattoos on other people you need a lot of teaching.
You have to do an apprenticeship under an experienced tattoo artist for four years or else you can't work in a tattoo shop. Mike is not yet allowed to do tattoos but i think that he is working to get there.
I chose Dr.Chris as well. He is a Tumor survive who is permanently disabled from the waist down. His right hand also shows severe Parkinson symptoms. He told us that he can walk very short distances and only with the help of an assistant. He is openly gay and shared his story of facing homophobia in the school system, both as a student and a professor. When he arrived in the Okanagan with his husband (who's name i can't remember) they helped to form a gay seniors group. He was also able to find a job teaching at UBCO thanks to kindness from the principal and other staff members.
